I come from the bustling island of Singapore and spent the last 3 years of my academic career pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of Warwick. My love for a discipline as multifaceted as Sociology stems from my personal inclination towards versatility and open-mindedness. Whilst in England, I had the privilege of furthering my passion for the arts through an investment in a variety of dance activities. I found myself competing regularly in multiple varsity, as well as nationwide Dancesport competitions; became a contemporary dance instructor to the university’s largest dance society; and challenged myself by enrolling in a part-time teacher training course under the International Dance Teachers’ Association (IDTA). Apart from my engrossment in dance, I thrive in most situations that evoke creativity and dynamism. I have dabbled with different musical instruments, floral art, gemology and jewelry making, and have enjoyed travelling extensively across Europe and Asia.
The sociological knowledge and skill sets I have acquired gives me a critical eye to unveil the true capacities of the taken for granted, and it is through the CGT’s strategic location and resources that I hope to commence my probe into the artistic habitus of society. As a fervent member of the arts, I am interested in exploring the various cultural conceptions of human capital and the cultural receptivity of governing institutions through a comparative study of the arts scene between the East and West. Hence, I look forward to engaging with the scholarships of Political Science, Human Development, and Education to deepen my understanding of cultural policy. Upon graduating, I hope to work my way into areas associated with social entrepreneurship to improve the cultural literacy within my homeland and beyond.
