An open forum for Columbia students on what you believe are the most pressing global issues today

The Committee on Global Thought presented an hour of open global discussion with Columbia’s undergraduates. Columbia’s leading scholars and members of the Committee on Global Thought heard the thoughts of Columbia’s undergraduates on the pressing issues facing the world today including everything from issues of globalization, to Occupy Wall Street and the Arab Spring. Discussants included:

  • Akeel Bilgrami, Sidney Morgenbesser Professor of Philosophy and Director of the South Asia Institute, Member of the Committee on Global Thought.
  • Mamadou Diouf, Leitner Family Professor of African Studies and Director of the Institute for African Studies, Member of the Committee on Global Thought.
  • Michael Doyle, University Professor and Director of the Global Policy Initiative, Member of the Committee on Global Thought.
  • Carol Gluck, George Sansom Professor of History and Professor of East Asian Languages and Cultures, Member of the Committee on Global Thought.
  • Reinhold Martin, Professor of Architecture, Planning and Preservation and Director of the Temple Hoyne Buell Center for the Study of American Architecture, Member of the Committee on Global Thought.
  • José Antonio Ocampo, Professor of Professional Practice for the Faculty of International and Public Affairs, Co-president of the Initiative for Policy Dialogue, Member of the Committee on Global Thought.
  • Katharina Pistor, Walter E. Meyer Research Professor in Law & Social Problems, Michael I. Sovern Professor of Law, Former Member of the Committee on Global Thought.
  • Saskia Sassen, Robert S. Lynd Professor of Sociology, Member of the Committee on Global Thought.
  • Sudhir Venkatesh, William B. Ransford Professor of Sociology, Member of the Committee on Global Thought.
