Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Barack Obama announced a slate of new agreements at their meeting at the White House yesterday. Some deals are still being hashed out, including the sale of six nuclear power reactors to India.

Prime Minister Modi will speak before Congress today. He’s expected to announce that India will formally comply with the Paris climate change agreement, which will guarantee that the deal will go into effect before the next president takes office.

Under President Obama and Prime Minister Modi, the U.S. and India have found common ground on a range of issues. But will this budding relationship last under a President Clinton or Trump? For answers, we turn to Dr. Vishakha Desai, former president and CEO of Asia Society and a senior research scholar at Columbia University.
