Citizenship: Afghanistan
I was born and raised in Kabul, Afghanistan, and I completed my undergraduate studies in economics at the American University of Beirut. I would characterize the loving memories of my childhood at my grandmother’s house as a place I call home. However, the concept of home has undoubtedly evolved for me as I traveled around the world. Later, becoming a refugee brought with it a quest for belonging and a void for a place to call home. Growing up in Kabul and living in multiple countries across Asia showcased the layered reality of social and economic inequalities, both on a local scale and between the global East and West. Encountering these disparities sparked my interest in understanding and addressing these challenges.
This MA program will allow me to deepen my knowledge of political economy, global governance, and related fields. My research plan focuses on how global governance can be leveraged to improve policies and programs aimed at advancing the Sustainable Development Goals in developing countries. I aim to develop my expertise in these areas and prepare for a future PhD.
