UCGT Global Thought Lab on Global Philanthropy

with Engineers Without Borders (EWB) and GlobeMed

Saturday, March 26, 2016 • 4-5PM

Columbia University, Lerner Hall, Room 569

The Undergraduate Committee on Global Thought is excited to launch a new series called “Global Thought Lab.” These events are student-led discussions with our peers on pertinent global issues. It is a chance for the UCGT to connect with the numerous other global groups across the Columbia undergraduate community and to bring together our ideas to create a global learning environment. We are excited to announce our inaugural Global Thought Lab in partnership with Engineers without Borders and GlobeMed on Global Philanthropy.

This Global Thought Lab on Global Philanthropy gave students the opportunity to discuss their experiences abroad, followed by break-out discussion groups on the influences—both positive and negative—of global philanthropic ventures.

About Engineers Without Borders

Engineers Without Borders (EWB) USA supports community-driven development programs worldwide by collaborating with local partners to design and implement sustainable engineering projects, while creating transformative experiences and responsible leaders. Founded in 2004, Columbia University’s student chapter follows this mission by working on sustainable engineering projects in Ghana, Morocco, and Uganda.

About GlobeMed

GlobeMed aims to strengthen the movement for global health equity by empowering students and communities to work together to improve the health of people living in poverty around the world. At Columbia, GlobeMed partners with Gulu Women’s Economic Development and Globalization to promote HIV awareness and gender equity in Gulu, Uganda.

About the UCGT

The Undergraduate Committee on Global Thought (UCGT) is an opportunity for Columbia’s undergraduate students to gain access to distinguished scholars and practitioners, from the Columbia community and beyond, whose work brings them to the forefront of global trends. The CGT faculty hope to encourage Columbia undergraduates to engage issues and consider broad and interdisciplinary solutions and methodologies in addressing them.

Students on the UCGT host conversations with faculty members and visiting scholars that are designed to resonate with the concerns of Columbia’s undergraduate community. These events are open to all undergraduates.
