About the speaker:

Dr. Noureddine Amir serves as chair of the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) and chair of all UN human rights committees, a total of nine treaty bodies that oversee the implementation of major international human rights treaties. For 20 years, Dr. Amir has served as a member of CERD and worked on human rights at the United Nations. A sociologist with a doctorate in political science from the University of Paris, La Sorbonne, Dr. Amir also serves as a professor of diplomatic law. Before his career as a UN human rights expert, Dr. Amir was a practicing diplomat who represented Algeria for over 40 years.
