WHAT IS IT?

Developed by Columbia University’s Committee on Global Thought, the Youth in a Changing World (or YCW) project asks, “How are youth around the world affecting and being affected by the rapidly changing world?” Through collaborative, peer-facilitated workshops with young people in cities around the world, the project will identify the commonalities and differences among global youth populations, towards producing concrete proposals for both global and local approaches to meet ongoing challenges.

On March 23, 2020, YCW project researchers will be lead a workshop on Staten Island at the Youth Action YouthBuild (YAYB) leaders’ summit. YAYB, headquartered in East Harlem, is dedicated to putting young adults in New York City aged 17-24 on the path to self-empowerment. YAYP provides job skills training, job placement services, high school equivalency, and a safe environment where students are positively encouraged to become leaders in their communities.

The YCW workshop will take place as part of the YAYB summit and will engage young people in meaningful dialogue on how they view and experience the changing world. The workshop will consist of large group discussions and focus group interviews. Facilitators will conduct the focus groups interviews around one of the project’s five themes:
