Hello! My name is Kie Donovan and I am a junior at Barnard College majoring in Anthropology (sociocultural) and minoring in Environmental Science. My interests are in conflict studies and the environment, particularly how food systems play into issues of war, peace, and conflict. I want to explore how alternative understandings of the environment and agriculture (such as permaculture practices and ethnobotanical knowledge) can help rebuild local food systems and create a more sustainable agricultural industry, especially in light of the global wheat shortage caused by the war in Ukraine and the effects of climate change on crop yields.
