As the daughter of Vietnamese refugees and a first-generation, low-income college student, Kathleen Hoang is an advocate and political organizer for immigration and education rights. Originally from Houston, Texas, she is now studying human rights at Columbia College. Her research centers the intergenerational victims of chemical warfare in Southeast Asia, who continue to suffer from severe health issues today. She hopes to use her research to aid in the legal and political fight for justice—an international movement still ongoing even fifty years after the end of the war.
