M.A. Student – Class of 2022

Citizenship: United States

I am an American who identifies with the transnational culture and life experiences of what the scholar Achille Mbembe calls “Afropolitan”. Born and raised in Ethiopia, I have studied and worked in Addis Ababa, New York City, and Beijing. I hold degrees in literature, economics, and international relations and have written an M.A. thesis on international development. Currently, I am pursuing an M.A. degree in Global Thought at Columbia University. With great perceptivity, I understand the similarities and differences across cultures and societies. Having a plethora of such diverse perspectives, I plan to pursue a career in international development.
